Hawaiʻi Children’s Action Network (HCAN) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit — and the only one in the state dedicated to advocating for keiki. We analyze data on children’s well-being, collaborate to solve critical policy challenges, and train parents and community members to be leaders and advocates.
Our approach is unique and effective. We have pushed the state to invest millions in children, trained hundreds of community advocates, and reached hundreds of thousands of families through our public education campaigns.
This work is particularly urgent now. Our children’s well-being ranks 22nd in the nation. One in eight children under age 6 live in poverty, and one in 12 households with children don’t have enough food. In total, 59% of all households struggle to make ends meet.
HCAN’s annual Champions for Children fundraiser supports our work to ensure that all children are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Each year, the event also honors local community leaders who made a significant difference in the lives of children and families.
